If you have animals you might want to read this. Maybe it could save you some money.
I don't think it's any big secret that I have been battling fleas on my cats for MONTHS. I feel like I have mutant fleas because they haven't responded to FrontLine, Advantage, Advantix, Revolution, or even Comfortis. I have read good things about the new flea collar Seresto and I REALLY want to try it, but it's out of my price range right now. 🙁
I was searching the Internet this past weekend for something that I could afford and I found the meds below on Amazon. It is basically a generic form of Capstar (immediate flea killer for like, 24 hours) and Program (month long flea birth control). I have used Program in the past with good results and Capstar usually works, but only temporarily. So for the price I went ahead and ordered it. I got 15 pills (which will treat my 6 cats for 2 months - with pills left over) for $36.
I got them in the mail yesterday and gave the cats the meds today. It's been a few hours and there have been no side effects other than extreme itching as the fleas die off. I had to move one of my cats to get to something earlier and where he was laying there were about 10 dead / dying fleas. So I know the Capstar part of the drug works.
Though most of the reviews were positive I read some saying that there were more fleas shortly after the meds were given and that makes sense to me. The Program drug should stop the life cycle of the flea, but that doesn't happen immediately. The Capstar portion of the drug kills the fleas that are on your pet within 24 hours, but there are always more in the environment. Obviously you should clean a lot to get all of the fleas / flea eggs you can, but I'm sure I bring them in anyway because there are so many stray animals in my neighborhood. 🙁 If they don't come in on an animal I'm sure they hitch a ride on me.
As odd as it might sound I don't often have issues with fleas on my dogs - and they are the ones who go outside, but my cats don't. I keep my dog room powdered with Diatomaceous Earth so that's probably why. I don't like powdering the animals themselves, though, and I don't like having DE all over my living room and Shadow's room. You aren't supposed to breathe it and the cats sleep with Shadow so I was saving that as an absolute last resort.
Anyway, I guess I can't say for sure this stuff works until I've had my cats on it for a few months, but if you're having flea issues this might be worth a shot - especially for the price. I think they also have larger doses for dogs. If you get this make sure to follow the instruction to give it with a fatty meal. It sounded critical to have the meds properly absorb.
