Just got back from Tigers for Tomorrow...
Just got back from Tigers for Tomorrow at Untamed Mountain. BEST DAY EVER! I just wanted to melt into the ground and be one with everything. Will definitely go back. Those big babies are the coolest. Would love to volunteer - just gotta find the time! 😃
Dang. Dumpy's diarrhea is worse.
Dang. Dumpy's diarrhea is worse. It smells worse and is just coming out all over. He also visibly looks affected. Not as energetic as before. NOT GOOD. 🙁
Vet appointment set for 2:00 tomorrow. This will be fixed. My baby WILL feel better. ❤
Well... Win felt good enough this morning...
Well... Win felt good enough this morning to let me know that he might want to eat my cat. 🙁
I was bringing him in from his potty break and Midna was in the floor. He sniffed her. She's not afraid of dogs so she let him. He then did that lunge / snarl / growl thing and I instinctively snatched his leash back and yelled "ANK!" He looked stunned to have gotten in trouble. If he was a stray or tied out I guess he's probably never been corrected in his life. I then crated him and covered him up. He does bark at the cats when he has a chance so I guess that should have told me that he might not be friendly towards them later. I kind of thought it was just an alarm thing, though. Like, "You see those things walking around?" He's been near them before and has never done that. I guess I'll just put them in a different room the next time I need to let him out to be safe.
For the record Midna was not hurt. And I doubt that will change her love of dogs. 😊
Also, on the bright side Win did feel ok enough to sort of trot around the yard today. 🙂 Today is the most I've seen him move - and the fastest. I guess he's perking up!
That is one photogenic little opossum.
That is one photogenic little opossum. Seriously - it doesn't even look real because he's posing so perfectly. But, he's real. I even got a couple of cute videos. 🙂 Those just take longer to upload.

Just took Win out.
Just took Win out. Shaun was outside doing something for me and Win was very antsy. He kept trying to get back in the house. Once Shaun went inside he was ok and did his business. He's not ok with anyone extra right now. I can't help but think that someone has been mean to him. 🙁 Maybe not... maybe he's just really used to being on his own. But I wouldn't think that he would get so antsy if he hadn't had any bad experiences with people.
Well, my opossum babies are stirring! I'm about to go and feed them and since Shaun's here I'll have someone able to hold a camera. I hope I can get a cute photo or video to put up. 😃
Just fed my opossum babies again.
Just fed my opossum babies again. Holy cow - I'm going to have to get a video of them eating. 😳 One of them grasped the nipple with his little hands. I wanted to explode from the cuteness. It was almost too much. 😃
In other animal news: Win has almost normal poop again. 😃 He seems to be feeling better than he has since he got here. He walked a bit more this afternoon than he has in days. He doesn't like it when cars go by or anything like that. If it's too noisy he goes straight back to the porch. He's still very unsure of everything. Doesn't want to be around people or new things. That's ok. He doesn't have to be ok with everything right now. The fact that he's finally starting to warm up to me is enough to make my day. 🙂
I got advice from a vet today regarding Dumplin'. Turns out that I had the medication she recommended I give him on hand [left over from my sick beardie Teal'c (still miss you, my love ❤)]. I gave him some this morning. He gets it once a day for 10 days. I guess it's too early to tell if it's helping him, but it certainly hasn't hurt him. He's still his energetic, adorable self. I think the worst part about him having diarrhea is that we can't hang out. Like, his poor little butt has been just leaking uncontrollably so I haven't been letting him out. There would be squirrel diarrhea everywhere. 🙁 I can't wait until I can let him out to play again. I very much miss hangin' out with my little buddy. 🙁
I just finished building a junk opossum moat.
I just finished building a junk opossum moat. Yeah. A junk opossum moat. o_O
Twice today I've gone in my garage and found a baby in the floor. Cold and covered in cobwebs and leaves. Both times I cleaned him off and gave him back to mama. Neither of them seemed injured or anything... just... not where they belonged. I'm pretty sure they'll be fine. They seem like durable litter buggers. 🙂
Anyway, it seems that the babies that are with Little Mama are at a stage I wasn't prepared for: The "wandering off, yet being small enough to get out of the cage" stage. 😳 NOT GOOD. They are just fitting right between the bars!
My garage is kind of a mess (for now, not ever!). If a baby ended up truly lost in there I'd never find it. To make matter worse I actually have no idea how many she has. I know I got a photo of her with what appeared to be 6, but there could have been more in her pouch. I gave her 3 more so that's AT LEAST 9. I haven't tried rummaging through her pouch to get a good count so I'm going to have to assume that they are all still there - seeing as how I don't have a firm number, anyway. I kind of have a sneaking suspicion that it was the same little dude that got out both times.
Neither of them were (or he wasn't... whichever it might have been) far from the cage, thank goodness. But I know that they CAN haul ass so that's the reason for the moat. Now if a baby falls out he'll be in a confined space and easy to find - not lost in the vast junkiness of my garage.
Do y'all have any idea how hard it is to find things that an opossum can't climb? They are excellent climbers. The moat is made out of an old aquarium, a piece of wall paneling, a long cardboard box, and a piece of acrylic. That's the best I could do with the junk I had on hand. Thankfully, I am pretty sure it will be effective. 🙂 And maybe I won't need it for long. They sure are growing fast!
