Let me preface this by saying that I would never choke my dog, BUT, there are times I just want to string her up, like, "Are you kidding?! STAHP!!!"
As some of you might remember: Faith and Lowrider came from the shelter to be my foster dogs at the same time. They went through a lot together. Heartworm treatment, spays, all of that. Needless to say, if it ever looked like I was taking Lowrider somewhere without Faith, Faith was not ok with it. She would jump the gate, and even jump through the open car window to be with her. Eventually, I ended up adopting them both. Faith was too weird and not conventionally cute, so I wasn't super surprised that no one wanted her. Lowrider, while cute and stubby in her own way, didn't win anyone over on her adoption trips to PetSmart because if I wasn't with her she would sit and not move. She knew she was my dog long before I did.
Well, a few years ago I had taken in too many dogs and stressed my pack out. Faith started herding and eventually started fighting Emma, so I moved Emma out of the dog room. Never thought I'd see the day this happened, but then Faith turned on Lowrider. So, for a couple of years now I've been crating and rotating to keep everyone safe. It's not a lot of fun for the humans here, but the dogs don't seem to mind, so we just go with it. I love both of them and if finding a home didn't go great for them a few years ago I have no reason to believe it would go any better now, so yeah. We just do what we have to do to make it work.
When Shadow switches the dogs around he usually crates one before letting out the other. I prefer that he does it that way because it's safer. Most of the time because I am lazy, I guess, if I am just letting Faith outside to potty I get her by the collar and walk her to the door. No bigs. But lately, Lowrider is so happy to see Faith that she just runs all up in her grill, like "Hey bestie I love you let's hang out." Faith is then like, "I will eat you!" but Lowrider doesn't care. I think she has long since forgotten the ass whooping that Faith gave her 2 years ago and it drives me crazy. 😳 Really don't run up on the dog who wants to fight you!
