I spoke with someone who has experience with wild critters and she's gonna take Dumpy for me in a few weeks. That's pretty bittersweet. 😐
In the meantime, I've had to make a few changes to his surroundings in preparation for a much larger outdoor enclosure. The biggest change was no more blankets. Now he's got leaves and paper towel strips to encourage him to learn to build a nest. I took this video this afternoon, and as of now, his hammock is full of paper towel. LOL I think he gets the idea.
He's also now got a nesting box, so after he gets a little more used to it I'm gonna have to remove his hammock. What a sad little squirrel he will be. 🙁
Anyway, among the other changes I've made is that he's going to have to start finding and working for his food. No more just feeding him. I'm going to have to hide it in paper towel tubes and in the leaves and pines cones and where ever else I can think of. If anyone feels like saving up paper towel tubes or pine cones for me, that would be great. I also need to get him some harder nuts to crack. If anyone has a source of hickory nuts or walnuts, that would be really helpful. I'm not sure where to get those right now.
Also, a while back I bought him that stuffed squirrel toy. He wrestles it all the time and I love to watch him do that. I finally caught it on video today. I think that's better than rolling around and wrestling the invisible ninja squirrel that lives with him. 😂😂😂 Reminds me of Shadow when he was younger. He always fought invisible ninjas and stuff. Must be a youngin' thing. 😉
Anyway, that's what's up with my wild baby boy. He's growing up on me and getting ready to become a wild MAN. If anyone wants to meet him - soon is the time because he won't be with me much longer. ❤
