What a day! 😳
I work with a lot of people over the phone and the internet and though I don't consider myself a people-person I like what I do. I feel less awkward and shy when I'm not face-to-face with someone, so that works for me. I like it when customers call that I've gotten to know - it's almost like hearing from old friends. The vast majority of my interactions with customers go pretty well, I think. There are some that always make me smile, and of course, there are those that make me want to pull my hair out - but thankfully, those are few and far between. There are only a hand-full of people that I just never want to deal with again. And today, one of them called. 🙁 We had not heard from her in a couple of years, but I recognized her name. I thought to myself, "I either liked her or I REALLY did not..." Yeah, I figured out about the time she started yelling at me which category she fell into.
While that part was totally sucktacular, I gotta say, my awesome boss made it better. I guess she could hear her through the phone from where she was standing because she asked if the customer was yelling at me. When I said "Yeah, she is totally yelling at me" Sarah took the phone and talked to her and explained the position I was in (why I hadn't done the thing she was yelling at me for not doing). The lady yelled at her, too, but calmed down eventually. We both felt kind of "off" the rest of the day. I think people don't realize that being nasty to someone can really have an affect on them. Anyway. I really appreciate that my boss jumped in. I've been thrown to the wolves before, so to speak, and it's not a good feeling. At least she had my back. 🙂
P. S. Beth, this is not public, but if you want me to take it down, I will. ❤
