Ok - I'm seriously stoked about my roaches. WAYYY TOO EXCITED over these bugs. 😁 My first batch should be here Friday and I ordered more last night so I could be sure to have some adults. I'll be getting about 200 roaches in all. I got the 2nd group from a different place. I don't know if there are any negative side-effects to roaches inbreeding, but I wanted them to have the option not to. 😂
I've got 30 adult females and 10 adult males coming - plus some babies - so hopefully that will be enough to get a good colony going. 😃 We need easily accessible roaches around here. I've read up on the pro's and con's of the dubia and how they compare to crickets and I just don't know why anyone would feed their animals crickets after all I've found out. 😳
You can fill your animals up faster on roaches because they are meatier and they have a better meat:shell ratio. They are also quieter than crickets, can't jump like crickets, and EVEN BETTER, they don't stink like crickets! They also can live up to 2 years so it's not like you have to worry about them dying off really fast.
I'm not trying to get TOO ahead of myself, but if I can grow a roach colony big enough to sustain my girls I'd be willing to sell some of the rest if anyone is interested. 🙂
