Tfw you've just woken up and...

Tfw you've just woken up and your husbang is like "Your roaches escaped." and you're like "What? No! How?!" and he blamed the cats but really me by saying that I left the container in the floor and then I go to the shelf where I left my roaches and they are where they are supposed to be, just chilling, so then I make them breakfast.

That is FAR too much range of emotion for me first thing after I wake up. 😬😳😒

Beautiful babies! 😍

Beautiful babies! 😍

Nature never ceases to astonish.  This is the larva of the Pink Underwing Moth, an endangered species which lives in the subtropical rainforest below about 600m elevation in the Australian states of New South Wales and Queensland. It has evolved a remarkable set of patterns to ward off potential predators.

Very few sightings of the caterpillar or the adult moth have been made this year, provoking fears that this highly endangered species is on the point of extinction. It is threatened by clearing of the rainforest as well as invasion by exotic vine species which have superseded its own favored food.

Unfortunately, too, when a population becomes so low that too becomes another issue – the adults simply do not encounter each other regularly enough to mate.

Me.

Me. I was just telling Shaun the other day that I missed the sound of my roaches swarming their food when I fed them at night. I would fall asleep listening to them. 🧡

Humans are evil giants. But we don't have to be.

Just saw my first Firefly of the season and momentarily felt happy. Then I thought of the wasp (who's been on my mind off and on all day) and about how many people were going to teach their children to dismember the Lightning Bugs for entertainment. Now I feel even more sad.

Why can't humans enjoy / appreciate nature without destroying it? Pick the beautiful flowers so they die. Disembowel our coolest bug and play with his glowy guts. Tie up our sweetest beetle by the leg and watch him try to get away until his leg breaks off. These things are sick and twisted and everyone should really think about that - not to mention the message they are sending their children when they teach them this shit.

Humans are evil giants. But we don't have to be.

I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...

I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING productive yesterday.  I guess I'm gonna make up for it today.  😕

I am *sob sob, sniff sniff* gonna move my roachies out of my bedroom.  I ❤❤❤ having them in here with me, but I have no space for Bruce.  While I love to listen to them scuttling around at night when I feed them I guess it's for the best.  If I don't clean my colony every week they get smelly.  I have so many that some are dying of old age and my room is not large or well-ventilated so that is the downside to having them in here.  But I do love listening to them as I fall asleep.  And I don't think it would be a bad idea to have them closer to the lizards.

Sugar has a vet appointment today at 4:45.  So I gotta do that.  I DESPERATELY need to mow my lawn, but when it was raining the other day I went out to open my little metal building so Sug would have somewhere dry to go and I slipped and fell down.  My left knee is bruised all black, and both of my arms are KILLING ME... I guess from catching myself.  So mowing the lawn is kind of the last thing I want to do.

Yeah, yeah - I get sick of hearing "Make Shadow do it.  He's old enough."  He does OUTSIDE the fence.  That is his part.  I do INSIDE because there are dog holes, and dog turds, and it's wet and mucky, and his feet grow so fast that he doesn't have any "yard work" shoes leftover - so that's just how it is.  Once I get my yard landscaped I will probably let him do all of the grass, but right now I wouldn't feel very good about that.

Anyway.  Laurel made me eat breakfast so I'm all full and sluggish.  I don't want to do anything.  She also told me I could pick dandelion flowers for my beardies so I did it and OMG - she was right - THEY LOVED IT.  Mona licked the flower a few times before chomping down, but Teyla didn't waste any time.  I wish I had more dandelion flowers in my yard.  I think I picked all of them after I saw how excited the girls were.  😍  Are those meant as a treat or is it ok to feed them a lot of those?  Someone tell me or I'll Google it later.

Also, JEWELRY STUFF:  I have nothing yet.  🙁  I ordered parts last week, but a lot of the pieces I use are on backorder (supplier sold out because of Mother's Day, she said) so it might be a couple of weeks yet before they come in.  I am SUPER BUMMED about that because I have so many ideas in my brain and a couple of custom orders that I hate making people wait for.  😕

Also, I have tried two different acrylic spray sealers for the plastic rings and even though they should be dry now (I sprayed them days ago and put them in a room with a dehumidifier) I can still dent the clear with my fingernail.  If I can dent it I imagine that they would scratch and scuff and I'm not down with that.  I am considering trying polyurethane spray, but I hate to keep buying sprays that I can't use.  The polyurethane spray I found at Hobby Lobby doesn't say specifically that it's ok for plastics, either, so that makes me a little nervous.  I mean, obviously, I'm not using it on all of the ones I have made - just some of the less fabulous pieces as a test.  I just wish I had a better idea of what to do.  Recommendations are welcome.

Well, I'm off to hopefully accomplish some stuff.  I only have a little while to do things before I have to pack up Sugar and head out.  Later, peeps.  🙂

LOOK HOW STINKIN' CUTE!

LOOK HOW STINKIN' CUTE!

My baby worms. First thing that's made me happy all day. ❤

Look at how TEENSY some of them are!

GUESS WHAT!!! I think I just had baby worms! 😳

GUESS WHAT!!! I think I just had baby worms!  😳

I accidentally ordered little mealworms instead of superworms a while back.  Koopa will eat them, but he didn't eat all 1000 of them.  My beardies aren't interested in such tiny food.  So, a bunch of them grew up into beetles.

WELL.  I didn't want to put the beetles outside because it was winter and I didn't want them to die or anything, so I kept them.  Yes, I kept them in the house and fed them and loved them and let them just live here.

And now I have EVEN TINIER WORMS.

That is like... whoa.  I knew that people bred worms somehow, but I didn't know how.  I didn't know it was that easy.  EASY ENOUGH TO DO IT ON ACCIDENT.

I might try this with the big ones if all I have to do is FEED THEM.

My day just got a little better.  🙂  I am officially excited.  😃

Dang, y'all.

Dang, y'all.  I got home and felt ok-ish aside from this persistent cough.  But it has somehow turned into nausea.  Blegh.  It must either be from sinus drainage or from the cough syrup I took.  I have no idea which, but I wish it would stop.  🙁

I sat down thinking I should do my nails since it's been like, 2 weeks.  So I started looking... and then... just nope.  I'd been patching two broken ones up for about a week and then I broke another one into the quick on the van I rented over the weekend to move my bed.  THEN when I got home today Chupa broke another one off down to the quick.  So rather than patch and paint them I just cut them off.  ALL GONE.  I have some serious NUBS right now.

So with THAT fun thwarted I decided to do something fun AND productive:  I cleaned my roach bin.  When I opened it up I thought "Oh shit, they're all dead!"  Thankfully, they weren't.  I remembered that I hadn't hooked their heater back up since moving everything around the other day so they were all just being still and quiet.  I am pretty sure they can survive AL weather, but they are tropical so I guess the winter isn't much fun without a heater.  On that note - I still have a bajillion so if anyone wants some bugs let me know.  My car seems to be working for the moment so I can meet you somewhere or just bring them by.  I don't feel super great today, but maybe by the weekend I'll be back to normal(ish).  I hope!

Lizard peeps

Lizard peeps in Oxford / Anniston / surrounding areas... if you have a lizard that will each roaches let me know.  I'm cleaning my tote right now and I have wayyy more than I expected.  I will LITERALLY give you roaches if you tell me what size you need and are willing to meet me to get them.  You can donate some money to my foster animal cause - or not.  It is completely up to you.  All I know is that I need to turn the heat down on them because I have more than I know what to do with right now.

Roach Pics!

Some roachy love! ❤

See that thing sticking out of her back end? That is her ootheca, or egg sac. She's pregnant! It pokes out sometimes. I don't know the whole process, but they actually have live young.

See the pretty light-colored guy? He molted recently, and his shell hasn't hardened back up. When he's brown, he'll be all crunchy again.

I have honestly NO CLUE how many roaches I have... but I had probably 15 of these egg crates stacked together, and every time I pulled one away from the bundle, there were about that many roaches in between. So, I guess a million or so. 😛

If anyone needs roaches for your lizards, let me know. I think I can sustain my girls plus some off of my colony now. 🙂

So... me and Shaun have not been to sleep yet.

So... me and Shaun have not been to sleep yet.  That is not as sexy as it sounds, but I did have fun!
He stayed up working on my bike - putting on my new shifters.  I cleaned my roach tote all by myself.  We accomplished things!  😃

I took out almost all of the man roaches because they can fight and stress the females.  I will feed them to my lizards - unless anyone else needs them.  I am GOOD on roaches.  🙂  For the first time ever in real life I got to see how roach babies are made.  I have some pretty cool photos.  I will upload them, hopefully sometime this weekend.

Anyway... I think that it is about time for me to call it a night.  At almost 7 am.  😛

Good things from today:

Good things from today:

Went to House of Chen and had an ass-ton of tea.  😃

Got my bike back from Dick's.  It is supposedly all fixed up, but it's dark and rainy so I haven't tried it.  Maybe this weekend...

My ass bruise is fading.  It still hurts, though.

I am about to clean out my roach tote.  And it makes me happy.  😃  I have a bazillion roaches, I am pretty sure.  ❤

I might be a terrible girlfriend.

I might be a terrible girlfriend. I am SUPPOSED to be hanging out with Shaun, yet I've been sitting here watching and photographing my roaches for 20 minutes.

If you need a lot of attention - never date a person who loves animals as much as me. Just don't. LOL
Thank you for putting up with my shenanigans, love!

Just finished cleaning out my roach tote

Just finished cleaning out my roach tote and am about to go treat my dogs for fleas.  We were lucky all summer... I don't know what happened.  Either way, it's about to be DEALT WITH.

Then I shall shower because HOLY SHIT.  I do not smell pretty.  LOL

Don't know what after that.  I would really like to eat and do my nails.  Sounds like a lovely evening to me.  😃

Another roach pic.

Another roach pic.  Sorry to anyone who is squeamish.  I just get so excited about them!  They seem to be doing well, and it makes me really happy.  😃

So, I fed them just the other day, and all of their food was gone when I checked on them tonight.  So I started dumping in more stuff, and they just started swarming out.  Poor starving roaches.

I read that they can eat fish food, so that's what they got tonight.  I had tons left over, and since I have no fish, and no plans to get more fish, I figured I'd make use of it.  So, those orange things are shrimp puffs, not cheese puffs.  Though I'm sure they'd eat those, too.

So you see those egg crates?  I've got about 12 glued together and stood up like that, and it's full of roaches.  They don't all come out and eat at one time.  And the babies seem to stay on the crates.  I read that they eat the frass (grown roach poop), so they probably don't have a need to venture out to scavenge until they are a little older.

I wish I knew how many I had.  I think I started with around 200.  They seem to be breeding a lot, as there are babies every time I look in there.  Woohoo!  😃

I cleaned my roach tote last night.

I cleaned my roach tote last night.  I have honestly no clue how many roaches I have, but I'm guessing there's a lot, considering that all of the food you see pictured has disappeared in less than 24 hours.  That is just... wow.  I don't even have a good guesstimate, but I wish I did.

I know it's hard to tell because all of the food is covered up, but they had half of a sweet potato, 3/4 of an apple, 3 baby carrots, and a tray full of fish flake.  I feel like that's a lot of food.  I am pretty excited!  😃
