This is the first time I've ever lived with a snake. Meet Bruce (formerly Val). He was given to Laurel because his human was being deployed, but her cats were bugging him so here he is. 🙂 He will share my bedroom with me so we can both sleep cat-free. 🙂
I hear that he's 8 years old. He's a ball python. Seems sweet so far. We've handled him a few times without incident. He seems very curious and wants to explore, but I need to move some stuff in my room and get to know him a little better before I let him loose.
I hear that he eats a thawed mouse on Tuesdays. I did some reading and he doesn't seem like a hard little pal to care for.
To my snakey friends: If you have any advice for a first-time snake haver, please leave it here. He came with a tank, a mug for water, a plate to eat from, bedding, a heating pad, and an igloo.
I am not sure about handling other than that I shouldn't touch his head. I just pick him up slowly and gently and that seems ok.
Anyway, we are all excited to have him. Shadow wasn't too happy when he heard the news, but he's warming up fast. Of course Shaun said the obligatory "You don't need anymore pets" but he then told me that he'd always wanted a snake. I haven't told my mom because I imagine it would do the opposite of making her Mother's Day, but maybe I'll let her know. Or maybe I'll just throw a towel over his tank when she visits. 😉
