Well, what can I say? The girl loves shoes.
Well, what can I say? The girl loves shoes. Maybe a little too much... notice how wet her face is when she walks away. 😳
I've seen videos on YouTube of pet opossums loving up people they know in such a manner. After seeing that in person, I am pretty ok with her just loving the shoes. 😛

And finally: One just for my trustworthy peeps. 🙂
And finally: One just for my trustworthy peeps. 🙂
Did a LOT of re-arranging my house today. To help minimize the stress on my lizard I moved Dumplin' out of my bedroom. Honestly, when he gets all wound up and awake it's really hard to sleep with him in there. So, it might be for the best. He's now in the kitchen, which means that when it's time to let him out to play I don't have to walk him through a room with cats. That has always made me very nervous, though it was a very short trip (less then 10 steps). He's always been really good and stayed right on my shoulder when I was taking him from my bedroom to the game room, but it's always been in the back of my mind that he might just decide to explore one day and that would most likely be the end of him. He's so fast that I don't think I could stop him. 🙁 I try to think safety first, so this new setup definitely eases my mind. 🙂
To make room for Dump in the kitchen I had to move my opossums. To move my opossums I had to move my love seat. There has been a LOT of moving things around today. LOL But, now I have the runt boy opossums in the living room with Nelly and the cats. The cats don't bother Nelly, so I don't think they're going to bother these guys, either. They haven't shown much interest. I would really like for everyone to be able to hang out - supervised, of course. I know that Nelly likes to come out and the cats leave her be, so maybe it will be the same with the boys. I guess I will find out! After they've had time to acclimate to the room and seeing the cats in there, though.
All in all it has been a busy day, but I'm pleased with the new house setup, and I hope that all of the animals are, too. There is at least one who I know feels like a queen. That would be Emma. Home girl got the love seat and she's barely gotten off of it since Shaun put it in there. 😃 Spoiled doggie! ❤

Barney and Fred
Nelly Beans!
I'm about to talk about Nelly Beans (Penelope Opossum) tonight. She was up walking around in her crate, so I opened the door to see if she'd like to have a walk around the living room. She was into that! She walked for maybe 20 minutes or so, then got thirsty and went back into her crate. She seemed to enjoy being out and exploring. I closed her door because I can't watch her all night, but I think I will try to do that every day. That is the most I've seen her move in months.
The cats didn't seem to mind her and she didn't seem to mind them, either. I think it would be great for her if I could end up leaving her loose with them, or at least unsupervised for chunks of time. She could really use the exercise and I hate to leave anyone caged 24/7.
I don't know if it was the change of scenery that prompted her to get up and get moving or if changing her diet has made her feel better, FINALLY. Whatever it is, I'm happy for her. And on that note, it's time to go cook for those awesome marsupials. I've been promising them eggs for days!

I haven't managed any yard work yet, but...
I haven't managed any yard work yet, but I've been productive, nonetheless. 😃
I moved Nelly Belly into a huge dog crate instead of the big ferret cage she was in. She never walks around much, so she's got basically the same set-up, but with fewer levels. I know her poor bones ache and she doesn't want to exercise. She probably should more, but I don't know of any nice way to coax an opossum who just wants to sleep to exercise instead. I don't know how much longer she'll be with me. They have pretty short life spans, even in captivity, so I'm just going to make her comfortable.
So, that means that Barney and Fred inherited the huge ferret cage. They are young and walk-y and energetic, so they will really make use of all that space. Since I've got them on the correct diet, that should prevent them from developing bone issues. Hopefully, they will stay walk-y and energetic for a long time. 🙂
Another bonus to the current setup is that I no longer have a large dog crate to fill. As much as I like helping animals, I really overwhelm myself sometimes, and I promised Shadow that I'd back off of the dogs. I need to, seeing as I still have one foster that hasn't budged. If I keep taking in animals that aren't budging, I'll have to move out and give them the house. LOL

Babysitting Barney and Fred...
Babysitting Barney and Fred so they can get some exercise. Fred actually ventured out of the cage today! All on his own. He got in my lap before deciding that the floor was ok. 😂 Of course he held on to the cage until the last possible second with his tail, but he did let go. He's been dragging around a box of cage liners for the last 5 minutes. I think he's found a toy. 🙂
These guys are pretty sweet. They have really wet noses, though. I feel like I need a shower. They've been snotting on me off and on for about a half hour. 😛

First good photo of Fred.
First good photo of Fred. He's normally more shy than Barney, but I guess not when he's snoozing. Love the little back foot fist and the curly tail. He almost makes a heart with the ball he's curled into. ❤
Barney & Fred snuggling.
Barney & Fred snuggling. This is what I see when I walk into my kitchen. I have to just keep my camera ready.
For the record their living place is clean. That's a fresh puppy pad, but they eat and leave crumbs everywhere. The bottom of the cage looks grody, but it's one I loaned out and it came back stained. I couldn't scrub the brown out with a toothbrush. (Yes, I tried). Their hut is chewed up because it used to belong to my guinea pigs, but the opossums don't seem to care. They sleep in it and climb on it just the same. 🙂

You know - it just doesn't seem to lose it's shock...
You know - it just doesn't seem to lose it's shock to walk in the room and find an opossum sleeping soundly. They go all out, with their tongues out, eyes open, on their backs... they really look dead. As much as I hate to disturb that kind of good sleep... I always do - just to make sure they are ok. 😂😂😂

Sleeping again. You can see her pouch in this one. 🙂 |

Nelly hair. Because who needs blow-drying when you can just use some spit and slick it down? |

Opossum pics
Runt baby Barney about to climb up in my lap. His brother Fred is much less adventurous and social. Fred wouldn't even come out for a grape. He just took it and ran back inside his house. LOL
Barney (that's him in both photos) has a happy face because he's eating a grape that he found in the wilds of the kitchen floor. LOL He's funny. Fred ate the whole thing, but Barney chewed forever and then spit out the skin. 😛

I've had one hell of a morning.
Sorry to anyone who's commented / messaged me, but I've had one hell of a morning and zero time to respond. I'll get back to all that this evening.
Tree guys are here (good for me but STRESSFUL).
Ants in my Nelly house (bad bad bad).
Dog fight (SUPER bad).
Don't worry - my pup is ok, but I'm moving her away from the pack. Seems like after I moved Emma out Lowrider became the target. NOT COOL. I don't know why Faith has turned on her best buddy, but it's NOT gonna happen again.
Aaand, I'm out. Leaving much later than I wanted to. 🙁 Let's get the Tuesday going.

Hung out with my Nelly-Nelly.
Hung out with my Nelly-Nelly. We woke her up and gave her some chicken. Ooh, she was into that. 🙂 Then she bathed herself for a good 15 minutes, and then started to walk around. We petted her and then took her out without any fuss. 😃 She sat on my shoulder for a minute, before eating my head again. I have no idea what is up with that, but apparently, my head is TASTY. She gets hands full of hair and just starts nomming. At first it tickles, but then she gets a little more into it and that's not so fun. I might have to start wearing a hat when she's on my shoulder. LOL Shaun won't hold her right now because she needs a bath, nor will Shadow, so I don't know if she'll nom anyone else or if I'm special. I'm going to keep handing her all week, and maybe by the weekend she'll be cool enough with me to let me bathe her.
Anyway, she climbed back in her cage on her own. Literally climbed. It was super cool. She even walked on the ceiling, upside down. 😃 Home girl has some muscles - the transition from wall to ceiling had her holding to the top with her hands and pulling the rest of her body / feet up to grab the bars. I was impressed! 😃
In other news: I've ordered some meds for my little buddy Teal'c. If that doesn't help him feel better and start eating, then to the vet we'll go! I really hope it doesn't come to that, but I just love his little scaly butt to pieces. He has to be ok.
I've bathed and fed the scale-baby and now I'm hungry.
I've bathed and fed the scale-baby (Teal'c) and now I'm hungry. I think I'm gonna have some Ramen, do the dishes, then hang out with Penelope some. I left her alone last night because I wanted her to get settled in and feel secure. But she has to get to know me! And I need to get to know her, too. Even being hand-raised, she makes the scary face and growls when you go to touch her. It's cute, though (and I'll admit, a little bit scary since I don't know her that well). She hasn't bitten anyone (except for non-aggressively nomming my head), so I THINK we're cool. Only one way to find out! 🙂

Penelope, 5 months old.
Penelope, 5 months old. Likes to hang out on shoulders and groom hair. Totally freaked me out when she nommed my head, since I didn't know what she was doing. But I'm cool now. And too excited to sleep. 😃😃😃
