Baby buns are incredibly hard to keep alive

Baby buns are incredibly hard to keep alive - even for experienced rehabbers. Their best bet is with mom. Please don't intervene if it's not an emergency and DO NOT TAKE ANIMALS TO the Anniston Museum!

Best advice:

Best advice because baby buns don't usually make it without real mama helping out.  🙁  Even experienced rehabbers have trouble with these.

"If you see fur flying out when you mow, it does not mean you killed anything. Mother rabbits will line and cover the nest with fur to keep her little ones warm and comfy. If you find a nest of baby rabbits, leave them alone. Plant a flag next to it so you don't mow over it. They will be gone within a month."

🙁 One of my little orphaned opossums died last night.

🙁  One of my little orphaned opossums died last night.  She was a little girl - the only one in the bunch.  All of the buns are still hanging in there, though.  That's surprising, but good.

I am finding it to be rather convenient...

I am finding it to be rather convenient that most baby bunnies have a white spot on their head.  Perfect for coloring with a marker to tell them apart.  🙂

Bun had trauma and did not survive.

Bun had trauma and did not survive. I don't think anyone could have saved him. 🙁

WHAT A DAY. ʘ_ʘ

WHAT A DAY.  ʘ_ʘ

I woke up this morning and some of my roaches didn't look so great.  One had even dropped her egg sack.  (NO GOOD - they give live birth!)  All of the ones that don't look great are adult females so they could just be old.  There are about 6.  I've already fed three to Teyla and I'm taking the other three to Pomona shortly.  No need for them to go to waste, I guess.  🙁

I spent a few hours shopping online for a good setup to heat my bugs and I finally found something.  I'm not entirely sure why some of them are dying, but I know they like it warmer than it is.  I'mma fix that.  WITHOUT posing a fire hazard to my house, thankyouverymuch.

Went to work and that was madness.  I ended up taking about 15 boxes to UPS by myself this evening.  AND I broke two damn nails doing it.  🙁

Also, I have a little baby.  A bunny who's mama was eaten.  I haven't been able to find a nursing mama like I did for the last one, so it looks like I'll be nursing him myself.  I have a few good folks that I can call now, though, so that's awesome.  🙂

I'm 30 minutes late for dinner so I'm heading out.  Gonna eat real fast and then get my bunny supplies.  I can't feed him until he warms up, anyway.  That'll kill him.  Not the effect I am going for.  🙂

Zombie Bunny UPDATE:

Zombie Bunny UPDATE:  I hear that he made it.  It's been two weeks so if he's alive now then I guess he's gonna be ok.  🙂

Well, the only thing I accomplished today was washing my 6 mutts.

Well, the only thing I accomplished today was washing my 6 mutts.  Nappy and Scruff just make my day - they line up and want to be FIRST!  😃  The other 4... not so much.  But they are pretty good for it, so that's awesome anyway.  😃

I did call to check on the bunny today, but the animal caretakers were not in.  So, I still don't know anything.  🙁  I guess I will try again on Monday.

I still plan to not eat until Tuesday-ish.  I feel like breaking my fast early is a sign of weakness.  We do not need nearly as much food as we consume.  Anyway, we went to Ruby Tuesday tonight and I did not eat.  Just ask Shaun - he seemed quite annoyed.  LOL  Had we gone to Los Arcos I might have given in, but not for Ruby Tuesday.  He wanted a steak and I didn't want to eat, so it all worked out.  😛

Off to snuggle my nice clean pups, then I'm gonna do my nails with the awesome polishes my Janet sent to me.  🙂

Today:

Today:  I am stressed over a situation that I don't have any say in.  It also appears that my feelings on the subject don't matter at all so that's pretty disappointing - especially considering that it's something pretty important to me and it's my family ignoring me.  🙁  I'm not sure how to handle the situation.

The wonderful Janet sent me some surprise polishes - 9 OF THEM!  We've been mailing nail goodies back and forth, and that's an awesome picker-upper.  🙂  We live so far apart that our areas don't seem to have a lot of the same stuff so it's always cool to get something that you can't find locally.  I'm going to have to think of something AWESOME to send her after today.  ❤

Zombie Bunny news:  There is no Zombie Bunny news.  I called the museum, but all of the animal caretakers were gone for the day so I had no one to ask.  🙁  That was pretty disappointing, but I'll try again tomorrow.  Sorry to anyone who was looking forward to that.

Other random crap:  I don't think I'm going to eat again until Tuesday.  My skin is really sore and red and not eating for a few days helps it more than anything else I've tried.  I might skip out on eating about 3 days a week this month.  I've read that by day 3 you feel crappy because your body is detoxing from whatever so I'm going to go 3 days at a time and see if that helps.  The last time I didn't eat I went for 8 days and day 3 was rough, but 4 was awesome.  So... there might be something to that.  Anyway.

About the Zombie Bunny:

About the Zombie Bunny:  Sorry to everyone who was bummed out when I posted that he hadn't made it through the night.  I really thought he was dead because when I touched him he was cool and didn't respond.  When I picked him up to take him outside I felt him move - which was AWESOME.  🙂  I also noticed that he'd pooped, which is a good sign.

On the way to the museum I kept him in my hand to warm him up and by the time we got there he was wiggling and smacking - which is more than I'd seen him move in the time he was with me.  He was warming up and getting hungry.  🙂  I read that mama bunnies only feed about twice a day (around dusk and dawn) so if he hung in there until feeding time this evening I imagine that he'd be ok - as long as his wounds don't get infected.  I will call and check on him tomorrow and let everyone know how he's doing.  Hopefully, I'll have some good news to report back!

Bun is now...

Bun is now with a nursing mother rabbit and siblings. I think that's the best we could have done. 🙂

I was wrong - bunny isn't dead.

I was wrong - bunny isn't dead.  Just cold.  Didn't move when I touched him this morning so that + the coolness made me think he wasn't with us.  Went to put him back with nature and found that not only is he alive - he pooped!  Good sign.  🙂  Taking him to the museum now.

Bunny...

Bunny didn't survive the night. 🙁

I've got an injured infant bunny.

Well... I've got an injured infant bunny.

This is my little friend for now.  Baby bunny who was taken from a cat.  He's warm and has drank some Pedialyte from a syringe.  We clean his wound (on the other side of his neck) so hopefully he'll pull through until tomorrow.

Little injured bun.  You can see a small scratch on his back, but the other side of his neck is what's really hurt.  Pretty good puncture from a cat.  🙁

Why, hello there. (Part 2)

A couple of weeks ago I got a phone call from a friend... her husband had run over a rabbit hutch with the lawn mower and there were babies in it. 😭 One died instantly, but there were 3 left. Of course I took them. They looked to be about a week old - they still had their eyes shut and everything. Despite me and Shaun reading up and doing our best to be good bunny parents they all died within a week. 😟

One acted strange from the start... it seemed like that one might have had internal injuries or was just traumatized. It was the first one to die. The second one I thought was probably ok, but it wasn't as curious or aware as the third. It died next. The curious one did really well for most of the week and I actually thought that one might make it... however, we were not so lucky.

From all of the reading I've done online baby bunnies are REALLY hard to keep alive. But AMC wouldn't take them unless they were really sick or obviously injured and the last time I spoke with the museum they said that they didn't do much rehabbing these days so I thought I'd give it my best shot. My main problem was getting them to poop... gosh, I really can't tell you how much time I spent wiping bunny ass. It was a lot, though. Anyway, they were really cute. This is Noggin, the last one to go. Here is a video:
