Today has been very chill.

Today has been very chill.

I woke up around 9 because Scar was driving me crazy, so I fed him and went back to bed.  I woke up and got up around 2.

I skipped my thyroid meds this morning.  I had messaged my doctor, but not heard back yet.  Likely related, I haven't had any hot flashes or bouts of sweating.  My head also feels less... pressurized?  I don't know.  But I'm thinking that I might not need that medication anymore, or that I may need a lower dose.  I'm going to see how I feel; plus I have a checkup in 2 weeks, so we'll see.

I watched some YouTube videos with Shaun today.  We watched a few things and I didn't even scroll my phone for dopamine hits (nor did I feel the need to), so that is really nice.  I can't remember the last time I was just able to do. one. thing. and it keep my attention.

After I did my office hours, we put on a show and I went through and put 2 more sets of my swatch sticks and locations into my database.  I have considered doing one last ring of sticks to finish an entire helmer.  It's out and sitting by me, so I might.

I didn't touch my app at all today.  That's kind of a big deal because building the PWA is what led to this giant crash that I've been trying to recover from, so it's nice that I'm not going crazy on it.  I do have some homework to do, class tomorrow, and also the class I'm teaching to prepare for.  Maybe I'll get on top of my homework tomorrow.  I dabbled in it a little bit today, but not much.

Anyway, the day is winding down and I'm getting tired, so I'm heading to bed soon.  If I wake up early enough tomorrow, I might repot my indoor plants.  We'll see.  But I definitely needed this chilling out in a big way.  It's weird to see that I can be productive without being stressed and that I can also be productive without pushing myself to the max.  This actually feels sustainable, as long as I protect and budget my energy.

I'm stupid excited because...

I'm stupid excited because I just decided for sure that I'm going to migrate my polish database to the app I'm using to track my stamping plates. I guess I know what my winter project will be!

I'm working on my nail polish database today.

I'm working on my nail polish database today. I have a goal to get everything added by the end of July so I can be done researching info on polishes and being exposed to more I want to buy...

Anyway, no one is allowed to touch my polish. You want your nails done, I'll do it. But they're not toys and everyone knows not to touch them. Most are in pristine condition, and the ones that have boxes are still boxed. No touchy.

Except for Bear. Bear knows very little, I believe. 😂 So I was in the floor organizing a few polishes earlier and he comes over with his big feet and steps in my drawer and starts rummaging around.
Why am I like "What are you doing with your cheese lips? (I gave him a licky mat with cheese spread on it to distract him. It didn't last long.) Ooh, yes, you have excellent taste! (As he picks one up and drops it back in the drawer.) I like that one, too. (As he takes one away to probably chew on it. [We didn't let him.])"

I love this dog so dang much. He just melts me. I'm definitely the soft parent when it comes to him. When I had my pack I was the only adult in the house so I had to be the tough parent, but there is something about Bear. 😂 I let him walk off with my nail polish, so you know he's got me wrapped around his paw. He's just so sweet. He wants to help with everything I'm doing and it's so hard to not let him feel involved. Thank goodness for Shaun. He gently keeps Bear out of trouble when I have my too-soft moments.

Exciting to probably no one but me...

Exciting to probably no one but me...

Out of 72 drawers I'm down to swatching the last 3 drawers of nail polish that are in my database. The 4 drawers of polish remaining after that are newbies that I need to put in my database as well as swatch.

So I didn't hit my December timeline on getting everything that's already catalogued swatched (and I knew I probably wouldn't), but this is still pretty great.

I'm doing a drawer of magnetics tonight, and a drawer of magnetics tomorrow. Those will take extra time to make sure the magnetic effect shows up on my swatch sticks. Then I'll do my duos, which will also take extra time because I need to swatch them separately and then together. After that, onto my new stuff!

I think I'm gonna have around 5000 nail polishes by the time it's all said and done... And that's a lot. (Please don't judge me too harshly - I've been collecting for many years. I still have polish I wore in high school.) I guess I will either need to stop buying or start destashing after this because I am running out of drawers to put them in. We shall see.

As of this morning...

For math purposes:  I started swatching on August 27th. It's taken me 7 weeks to do 1/3 of my collection. I don't think I'll be finished by December, especially since I'll be away for 2 weeks. But that's ok. I think I'll have the bulk of my colors done and will be down to toppers, magnetics, thermals, gels, etc.

Today Shaun and I built 7 Helmers from Ikea.

Today Shaun and I built 7 Helmers from Ikea. Then we moved 58 small totes of nail polish downstairs. I got 36 of those totes put away into the Helmers. The rest of the polish is sorted by brand (easier to put into my database) rather than color (how the rest of my polish is sorted), so it's slower going putting those other 22 totes away. And I think I'm going to need a few more Helmers, anyway.

I sure wish I had Janet here to help me sort the colors! 😂❤️

I've had some stuff on my mind for a few days...

I've had some stuff on my mind for a few days and now I'm off until Monday, so here I am to share my thoughts.  It's been a minute.  This is nothing important, so feel free to keep scrolling if you're (rightfully) not interested in the boring details of my life.  😆

I've been at home for almost 3 full weeks now.  I just finished working week #2 from home.  I feel like I am settling in more and more, and things are pretty great.  Somehow, working from home is even better than I expected.  I don't know if it's due to not having a commute, or not having the stress of other people around me, or not having the discomfort of clothes that don't feel comfortable, or if it's that I'm in my safe / happy space, but I feel like I have so much more time and energy than I used to.

After living with Kelsey for all of those months in Cinci and eating the healthier food that she cooked, I told Shaun that I'd planned to change things up and make food at home more often once I got back.  For those of you who don't know - I have never been much of a cook.  Me and Shadow (pre-Shaun and Kira) ate sandwiches and frozen foods and pizza and fast food and kits from Wal-Mart like the Homestyle Bakes and pre-made packages that you dump in the slow cooker.  I always tried to make it healthy, like with the steam-in-bag veggies and whatnot, but honestly there was almost never a time I had actual ingredients in my house to mix up a type of food.

After me and Shaun met, we went out to eat more and when we did eat at home together he was the one who made the food.  He's good at it, too.  His seasoning instinct is on point.  But he mostly made carb-heavy foods like pizza or macaroni and cheese or baked potatoes.  Combine that with depression and then the stress of college and it's no wonder I gained some unnecessary weight.  But this post is not about that.  It's about self-care.

Since living with Kelsey, though, I learned that maybe I don't hate making food; maybe I just don't like fucking around with dead animal corpses.  I've never been much of a meat-eater anyway and a lot of people are shocked to learn (given my history in animal rehab and rescue) that I'm not vegan or vegetarian. I still can't claim to be either of those things, but I have discovered that I don't dislike cooking and baking as long as it doesn't involve dead bodies.  Go figure.

So in the past few weeks I've made rice and beans and lentils.  I baked some broccoli and it turned out pretty good.  I've baked several loaves of pumpkin bread from a vegan recipe and it's always gone by the next day.  I tried some unflavored tofu baked in the oven and that was actually pretty good.  Next time I will season it like Kelsey does.  Last night I made corn bread to go with canned soup for dinner and while it was different than what I'm used to, it was good.  I'll definitely be doing that again.  I know these things are not impressive by any stretch, but for me they signal a new chapter and growth.

I guess my point is that I have both the time AND energy to take a little bit better care of myself at the moment and I'm doing it.  I'm not making 100% healthy choices.  Just today I've eaten some Sea Salt and Caramel Dark Chocolates.  But overall I've felt better since I've been home, and Shaun and I have agreed to try to keep going out to eat to the weekends and special occasions.  Also, kind of sadly, I have been off tea since I got back. I do love the teas I have, but I just haven't been feeling it.  Water and Lactaid milk only, for the most part.  No caffeine or anything.  I didn't mean to do that; it just kind of happened.  🤷

Anyway, since I've been spending more time in the kitchen I felt a big need to organize.  I now have containers of flour and brown sugar and rice, etc.  That's crazy.  But I think it's helped me feel more connected and "here."

Speaking of organizing (I know, this is ridiculously long already, but I have more)... I've decided to move my nail polish downstairs.  I have 8 helmers being delivered from Ikea tomorrow.  I'm pretty excited about that.  It'll be a nice way to store my polishes properly (in a dark drawer so they don't fade), so I'm pumped about that.  I spend most of my time downstairs with the animals so it just doesn't make sense to have my hobby put away somewhere that is effort to get to.

Other than that, I've finally got the mental space and energy to think about starting back on my two long-term projects:  my nail polish database and my website.  Those two things were put on pause in August of last year.  I don't know how / when those are going to fit into my life yet, but as I fall into a comfortable routine here I know that the opportunity will present itself.  I'm excited to pick back up on those things and I feel more like myself than I have in a long time at just the thought of it.

So... that is pretty much all I have to talk about at the moment.  Basically a big, long ramble, but I feel better now that it's out.  😁😁

I hope you all are doing well!  If you feel like telling me what's going on in your life, I'm happy to listen!  ❤️
