Mona is totally kicking ass...

Mona is totally kicking ass at our hide-and-sleep game tonight.  I absolutely cannot find her.  I am seriously considering just shutting the door and letting her sleep where ever she is.  I'm sure she wouldn't complain.  The question is... Will she wake up without her heat light coming on?

I have to go and look one more time.  😬

Now that my bugs are all (hopefully) snug...

Now that my bugs are all (hopefully) snug... I think I'll bring my dog in out of his nest and call it a night.  🙂

I feel better about this setup... I have a tote inside a tote with two heating pads stuck to the inside tote with aluminum tape (which is nifty stuff, btw).  And two fleece blankets stuffed between the totes to help insulate the inner one.  For good measure I also folded up an extra blanket that I wasn't using and put it on top of the outside tote.  Hopefully I have not created a fire hazard.  😂  Time will tell.  Can't wait to see what the thermometer reads in the morning!  I hope that some of what I've done was effective!  I don't want my roaches to be cold!

P. S.  Think of me what you will, but I'm totally digging listening to them scuttle around at night.  😃  I like it!

P. S. Again:  When I moved them into their new tote I found one of the girls upside-down in the egg crate.  I think she'd been trapped like that.  🙁  She was alive so I put her right side up in her water crystals.  She was totally thirsty.  I hope she is ok!  ❤

Just went shopping for my roaches!

Just went shopping for my roaches!  I have been convinced for DAYS that they are cold so I bought them some blankets, a new tote, and some foil tape so that I can secure the heating pads where I want them.  Also a thermometer so I'll KNOW that they are staying warm and stop freaking out.

I don't half-ass take care of anyone.  I put my whole ass into it.  😃

Holy cow. Yes - the wind and rain sound scary.

Holy cow.  Yes - the wind and rain sound scary.  But I think my dogs are being unnecessarily freaky about it.  😐

Calm down, dogs!  At least the trees have been trimmed.  You'll have a roof over your heads tonight.  Can't promise that you won't wake up swimming, though.  😛

I have received two good newses tonight. 😃

I have received two good newses tonight. 😃

MOAR ROACHES!

MOAR ROACHES!

Look at all the ladies! 😃 I think some of them might already be knocked up. Their abdomens are large and they keep squishing a white thing out of their butts. Not babies yet - maybe the oothica? 😃😃😃

Let's play a little game of "spot the dog."

Let's play a little game of "spot the dog." There IS a dog in this photo. He's not coming to me and I don't know how I'm gonna get him out of his nest. 😂 I REALLY don't want to leave him out today because it's gonna rain. Damn. 😳

So my roaches arrived in Birmingham...

So my roaches arrived in Birmingham at 5:51 pm today... and the tracking still says "Expected Delivery By:  February 23, 2013."  I just don't see that happening, somehow.

Definitely gonna take them some food and water, though.  They've been boxed up longer than my last batch.  I bet they are hungry and thirsty.  🙁

Ok, so... I napped. 😃

Ok, so... I napped.  😃

I think I'm gonna move a few things to the garage before it gets dark.  That will make me feel productive!  😃

Worked in my yard a little bit...

Worked in my yard a little bit with mom and Bobby.  All of the wood outside of the fence is now in pieces small enough to move.  It is free to a good home so if you want it - come and get it.  It's nice, fresh pecan wood.

We're gonna have to wait on cutting up what's inside the fence.  It's just a mucky mud pit and I'm not up for sliding and sloshing around in that.  Maybe it will stop raining long enough for all of that to dry up soon.  I HOPE SO!

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my day.  There is plenty that needs doing... I just kind of don't feel like dealing with it.  I guess we'll see.  😳

Got back from the vet with Lowrider a little bit ago.

Got back from the vet with Lowrider a little bit ago.  She's gonna be ok - she's on antibiotics and the vet shaved a little bald patch on the back of her head / neck.  She's missing about a dime-sized chunk of flesh and it was infected.  🙁  I didn't even know it was there until I was getting her by her collar this morning and stuck my thumb in it.  Oh, that was disgusting and I'm sure quite unpleasant for her, as well.  🙁

Anyway, she had a puncture that I cleaned and it's doing just fine.  I guess next time I'll have to check more thoroughly if someone gets hurt.  I don't know how I missed that.

My roaches didn't come today so I guess Monday is the day.  I hope they are ok in a box for that long.  😐

Went to Tractor Supply...

Went to Tractor Supply to get the cats some food.  They have baby chicks.  😳  Their little peepy sounds just melt me.  I miss having chickens.  It's so hard to not just take a few home.

In other news - my other set of roaches left Cali on the 21st and are supposed to be delivered today.  The tracking hasn't updated so I don't if that's accurate or not.  I had planned to just go to work and wait on the post man, but looks like that is not gonna happen.

I gotta get Lowrider to the vet.  Looks like one of her sores from her scuffle with Faith the other day is pretty infected.  🙁

Roachy Posty!

Beginnings of my roach colony!  😃😃😃

Don't worry - I'm not gonna leave them without water.  I'm growing their water crystals right now.

There are supposed to be 125 in here.  They cluster together and hide.  I'm getting about 75 more tomorrow.  Thirty of them will be adult females so hopefully I'll have more babies soon.

😃😃😃

I got my roaches!

I got my roaches!  I got my roaches!  I got my roaches!

They are SO FUCKING ADORABLE with their little mandibles and shit.  I don't know if I can feed them anyone.  😳

Poor babies were so hungry and thirsty when I opened up their box.  I gotta go and get them all settled into their new place now.  😃

I just got an unexpected update and photo...

I just got an unexpected update and photo of former foster Pixie!  THAT just made my night.  ❤

She's doing well, btw.  😃

According to the tracking #'s it looks like...

According to the tracking #'s it looks like I'll be getting roaches on Friday AND Saturday!  Woohoo!  Big weekend over here!  😃

Roachies!

I just got my 2nd roach tracking #! I'm guessing they'll head out tomorrow! 😃

I love it when...

I love it when I go somewhere and random strangers talk to me.  That is not sarcasm - I actually do love it.  😃

Ok - I'm seriously stoked about my roaches.

Ok - I'm seriously stoked about my roaches.  WAYYY TOO EXCITED over these bugs.  😁  My first batch should be here Friday and I ordered more last night so I could be sure to have some adults.  I'll be getting about 200 roaches in all.  I got the 2nd group from a different place.  I don't know if there are any negative side-effects to roaches inbreeding, but I wanted them to have the option not to.  😂

I've got 30 adult females and 10 adult males coming - plus some babies - so hopefully that will be enough to get a good colony going.  😃  We need easily accessible roaches around here.  I've read up on the pro's and con's of the dubia and how they compare to crickets and I just don't know why anyone would feed their animals crickets after all I've found out.  😳

You can fill your animals up faster on roaches because they are meatier and they have a better meat:shell ratio.  They are also quieter than crickets, can't jump like crickets, and EVEN BETTER, they don't stink like crickets!  They also can live up to 2 years so it's not like you have to worry about them dying off really fast.

I'm not trying to get TOO ahead of myself, but if I can grow a roach colony big enough to sustain my girls I'd be willing to sell some of the rest if anyone is interested.  🙂

JUST got home. Long day.

JUST got home.  Long day.  I can't see the total damage, but from the lights shining in my yard it's all wood.  Branches and sticks.  😳

Free pecan wood, folks.  Come and get it.

I've had one hell of a morning.

Sorry to anyone who's commented / messaged me, but I've had one hell of a morning and zero time to respond.  I'll get back to all that this evening.

Tree guys are here (good for me but STRESSFUL).

Ants in my Nelly house (bad bad bad).

Dog fight (SUPER bad).

Don't worry - my pup is ok, but I'm moving her away from the pack.  Seems like after I moved Emma out Lowrider became the target.  NOT COOL.  I don't know why Faith has turned on her best buddy, but it's NOT gonna happen again.

Aaand, I'm out.  Leaving much later than I wanted to.  🙁  Let's get the Tuesday going.

I'm sorry to anyone this offends...

I'm sorry to anyone this offends, but it is historically ACCURATE.  This was never meant to be a Christian nation.  Please learn your facts.  And don't forget - they are true whether you believe in them or not!  ❤

Got to see former foster baby Dahlia today...

Got to see former foster baby Dahlia today.  Definitely feeling the love.  😃

Thank you so much, Mary, for letting me see her.  It always makes my day.  I just love you for taking such great care of her!  ❤

I think I'm "hangry"...

I think I'm "hangry" as evidenced by the unwarranted amounts of crazy I'm throwing at Shaun right now.

He's getting me some food.  Good man.  ❤

I feel like a spoiled brat today!

I feel like a spoiled brat today!  Y'all don't even know.  Spencer's is having a sale on their HATS.  HATS, motherfucker!  😃

I now have a raccoon, a Cookie Monster, an Oscar the Grouch, and a random monster.  $5 each - AND buy one, get one 1/2 off.  So $15 for 4 hats.  SWEET!

Shaun also bought me some nail polishes.  And we had yogurt at 32°.  😃

It was almost like a date night.  I asked the kid if he minded if I came home late if I brought him some Taco Bell for doing so.  He agreed.  I love being able to bribe him with food.  😃

I know, I know.  I'm a good mom.  😛

I mentioned to Shaun...

I mentioned to Shaun that I wanted to just SEE if the girls might get along so he made it happen.  This is a video of how it went.

Pomona goes all "Come at me, bro!  I can't reach you!  Watch me do push-ups!" and Teyla is just like "Haaay, girl!  Wassup?  I'm waving at you!"  Ho. Ly. Shit.  😂

For the record they are not housed together.  They don't even live in the same room.  This is their first meeting ever and from the looks of it - also their last.  I don't need any fighting dragons!

Please pardon the grody-looking bars of Pomona's setup.  That is the top of an old guinea pig cage I snatched up out of the garage and threw down on a scrap of linoleum and it's just sitting in the middle of the game room floor.  Yes - it's janky.  It was meant to be temporary and it still is... I just haven't figured out a better setup for her yet.  😛

For the record Mona really seems to love it.  I prop one end open in the evenings with that roll of tape so she comes and goes as she pleases.  She stomps around the room, licking things, climbing things, terrorizing Emma, whatever, and then goes back up under her light to get warm.  Rinse and repeat.  😂  She has things to do.

What's really interesting to me is that my girls have totally different reactions to each other - and everything, really.  They are just so different.  When I take Teyla places she likes to ride on my shoulder, but Mona never wants to stay put.  She needs to GO so if I took her anywhere I'd probably just have to leash her and let her walk.  😂

I love getting to know my kids and seeing how different they all are.  I don't care how lame it might sound - animals definitely have distinct personalities.  It's all a matter of whether you take the time to get to know them or not.  To me it's totally worth it.  They are all somebody, too!  🙂

"What's happening, Blu?"

"What's happening, Blu?," says Facebook.

Well, I'm getting ready for bed.  How interesting, right?

Before I go I wanted to mention that my awesome kid got all A's and B's on his progress report.  😃

And I wanted to tell you that I'm downloading the lizard video that I wanted to share so hopefully I can upload it here in the morning.  😃

AND I wanted to post these nails.  Although I know that these aren't all that impressive I am quite thrilled that I managed to get my tattoo on straight.  I usually screw that up and they are not as easy to fix as a stamping mistake.  Once you've ruined a tattoo - it's ruined.  There is no fixing it.  You just have to start over with another - if you have any left!  🙁

I'm doing some pet-sitting for a friend this week so I haven't had the time or energy to do much in the way of nails.  Since I'm surrounded with dogs more so than usual right now, (and since I will be doing doggie things on Saturday as well), I thought I'd slap a dog tat on there and call it good.  My only problem is that I thought the tattoo was gray or navy blue and it's actually kind of greenish.  Oh well.  😛

Happy Valentine's Day to me!

Happy Valentine's Day to me! I just bought an ass-ton of roaches! 😃

Y'all remember THIS crap from August?

Y'all remember THIS crap from August?  Alabama Power came and moved their line from under the limb to over it.  They also tied the giant-ass limb to the tree... I'm assuming to make it impossible for me to get down.

Well, tree guy came today and this is officially HANDLED.  BOOSH!  😃

He'll be back in the coming week or so to trim my limbs back to hopefully prevent more things like this from happening.  My poor trees are so old and so giant.  They can't hold those big ass limbs up anymore.  Poor trees.  I hope they feel better.  ❤

Time to get my cry on.

Aaand... getting my trees trimmed again.  Time to get my cry on.  Anyone needs to be entertained (because I'm sure this shit's funny to everyone but me), be at my house when I get off work.  There will be tears, and tree hugs, and apologies.  Many, many apologies.  ❤

I've been up since 6:30.  And guess what I've been doing...

Bug shopping online.

I'm gonna get some ROACHES!  😃

Y'all don't even know.

Y'all don't even know.  I have a seriously funny video of my scaly girls interacting tonight.  It was the first time they'd ever seen each other.  Too bad for you that it's my bed time.  Perhaps I will have a chance to post it tomorrow.  ❤

How's it going, Blu?

How's it going, Blu?

Um... how about not so great?  I have been tense for days.  My face and my scalp literally feel tight and I've had this weird headache that won't quit.  That doesn't make it easy to get any decent sleep.  🙁  I feel like I must be on the verge of some kind of awful breakdown.

I think I need a vacation.

*****

[For context I was helping dog-sit.]  I'm ok with the dog walking. Although CJ went looking for his rat tonight then ran in the house with muddy feet. I couldn't find a mop so you'll see the mess in the morning. I was informed that there is no mop so I'll paper-towel it up tomorrow evening. 😂

The only dog situation stressing me is Nappy's hip. I'd also be super happy to have Casper a home, though. And I'm kind of anxious to get the application from the guy who's # you sent me. Too much house stuff has me stressing. Just too much stuff not going how I want / need it to. 🙁

Getting my kid, getting some Captain D's, and might go to PetSmart. We shall see. 😃

Got my kid home, got my Captain D's on, met Kendra (woohoo, finally!)  😃  I'm about to have some OJ, do my nails, and watch Netflix all night with my boy.  Yay for weekends!

Also - I cleaned the hell out of my house earlier so I am feeling super happy about that.  😃  Later, FB.

Just got home from Dave & Busters in Atlanta.

Just got home from Dave & Busters in Atlanta.  I had a nice time.  The food was damn delicious.  I was just tired of people long before the night was over.  I'm SO not a social butterfly.  😔  By the time we were done eating I had to go and be by myself.  Wasn't even up for games.  That's ok, though.  I don't have to be a people-person.  😛

Happy Birthday, Krystahl.  I feel like I kind of loaned you Shaun as a date tonight.  😂  I hope that served as an ok gift and that you had fun!  ❤

A lot of people...

A lot of people seem to be getting engaged this month.  Must be February.  😂

I like it because it has wonky days.  That is all.  😃

Pomona on bass. 😃

Pomona on bass.  😃

Pardon my desperate need to vacuum up dog hair.  I'll do it when I feel like it.  😛

I was waiting around here...

I was waiting around here to see if brown hound would come back, but I guess she's not.  I will be heading to work shortly.

Hopefully I don't get another call today from the school nurse.  On both Monday and Tuesday Shadow broke out in hives after P.E.  We've changed nothing here and the school nurse says that the P.E. teacher hasn't used anything new in the gym.  Mom took Shadow to the doctor for me yesterday afternoon and now he's on Zyrtec.  Doc says he hopes this works itself out by the weekend.  He's seen 4 cases like this recently.  I find it bizarre.  Allergies can develop at any time, but they don't usually just go away, do they?  Anyone else heard of anything like this?

It is officially "help Blu make a big decision" time!

It is officially "help Blu make a big decision" time!

I think it's pretty common knowledge to anyone who pays attention that my house floods sometimes when it rains a whole hell of a lot.  Not the whole house, just a room.  But the water gets so high and heavy that it also pushes my fence down, which is bad with 6 + dogs needing to be contained at any given time.  They are usually in the house, but that's wayyy too many dogs to walk.  Much easier to just open the door and let the herd out.

SO... earlier this week, I learned that for $2700, I could probably fix my yard with some landscaping.  It would at least direct water away from my house, which would be awesome.

However, I kind of had other plans for that money.  Such as surgery on Nappy's other hip, paying back Shaun for emergency vet bills, taking care of that cancerous looking thing on my dad's face, trimming my trees so they stop smashing my fence and my car...  You know.  The usual.  Either way I go, the things I would do would bring me some peace of mind and relief.

I would have NO PROBLEM doing the work on my yard instead of paying someone to do it, if I had that kind of equipment and know-how.  But I don't, and I don't want to do a bad job and make the flooding worse for me, or cause it to damage my neighbor's place.

So the question is, put the house and flooding on hold for a year, or go for it?  If I go for it, I'm putting on hold paying back money I didn't want to have to borrow, my dog's ailing hip, my dad's very likely cancerous face, and giving my tree limbs a free license to damage more of my stuff.  Catch 22, folks.

For the record, below is my yard.  That shit is stressful.  By the time that much water goes behind my house, it's rushing like a small river, and also flooding into my garage.  🙁

I copied the comments for context.

Update on Maya:

Update on Maya, now known by her new foster person as "Mai Tai" because she's "Very sweet and completely capable of knocking you on your ass."  LOL

Sounds like this girl might have a bright future doing some work.  😃  I will keep you all updated.  I'd love to hear that she's doing search and rescue.  ❤

You know the whole, OVER, UNDER AROUND AND THROUGH  idea? Mai Tai lives it. She will literally try all sides, top and bottom of the edges sides roof or floor of something to get to something inside. Pawing, nosing shoving, jumping, climbing, even belly crawling and not one attempt at each but three to dozens. Never less than three attempts at almost anything though.
And if she does do what I want on the first command, she will bark her objection to good behavior twice afterward.
Dog is a screaming hoot. In a handler's hands a gem. In an average pet home....not so much...
Anyone want to demo their training cred? This is a narc or bomb or SAR dog waiting to happen.  Anyone looking for a serious agility candidate to challenge you?
This is your go all day, creative, light footed, determined wonder dog.  Me... I'm just tired and in awe. Lol.

I just witnessed...

I just witnessed the MOST EPIC ass-kicking of a dog done by a cat.  There was nothing I could do to stop it - it happened so fast.

Since I'm cleaning and re-arranging the living room I guess I got the dogs interested.  So Faith decided to jump the gate and come in.  So... I put her back.  Then she did it again.  And I put her back.  Third time she tried to jump Snaga was waiting for her on top of Teyla's cage (at the doorway where the gate is), growling.  She was warning her, but Faith didn't listen and jumped anyway.  While she's clamoring at the top of the gate trying to get over Snaga is just there - steadily growling and slapping the shit out of my poor, bewildered, misbehaving dog.

Faith finally gave up and fell back into the dog room.  She's got a nice bloody nose to show for her effort.

HOLY SHIT.  I only wish I could have caught it on video.  My cat is a dog bouncer.  😳
